The Story Behind the Site
About The Bottles Open
Fifty years of fellowship, fairways and fun.
The Bottles Open is a social golf tournament with a history stretching back to 1976, when a group of public servants and North Old Boys footballers first teed off at Warburton Golf Club for a modest scratch event with a two-bottle entry fee. This website is the digital home for the tournament's 50th anniversary — a central hub where players, past winners, and curious visitors can explore nearly half a century of stories, scores, legends and lasting friendships.
The app is built for the Bottles Open community — the regulars who tee it up each last Friday in November, the old mates who drift in and out over the years, and the families and friends who share in the occasion. Here you can register for the next event, review the schedule, browse the full roll of champions dating back to the inaugural year, compare historical player statistics, read tournament stories submitted by the field, explore the courses and watering holes of years past, wander through the photo gallery, and even test your knowledge with our tournament quiz.
The site is maintained by the Bottles Open committee — the volunteer organisers who have carried the tournament's tradition forward since the founding members handed over the reins in the early nineties. Today's committee continues the work of preserving records, handicapping the field, collecting entry fees in the spirit of the original two bottles of CUB, and ensuring that the stories and characters of the Bottles Open are remembered, celebrated and shared for many more years to come.
